Exactly 10 years ago, I was 29 years old and was about to open the original Studio Zahiya. And I had made a decision that year. NO. MATTER. WHAT. I would say yes to any really awesome opportunities that are presented to me. And in the spring, I got offered a chance to go to my first dance weeklong retreat with one of my heroes, Aziza. I hesitated, but then remembering my decision, I said yes. And I went, and it was amazing, and it changed a lot of my life moving forward. I made connections that week that would further my career.
10 years later, I got to teach at a weeklong retreat with Aziza in Montreal. I am a full time dancer and have travelled all over the US. AND, I have made it a priority to have regular retreats in my life.
Now, am I writing this because I think you should come on my Discover Your Joy Retreat in Costa Rica. Well, yes, I think you'll love it. BUT, I also think you should go on a retreat whenever you are able to do so.
There are many reasons: retreats allow you to pull back, get inspired, become spacious, and find your tribe.
Here are some of the many reasons I think you should consider retreats in your life:
1. You Get to Pull Back It’s strategic. You withdraw from your regular life, pulling in all the energy that’s otherwise fanned out and thinned out in multiple directions. You gather your forces to focus them on something you love. From this place, you get a new perspective, you regroup and re-energize. You find inspiration. Then you put inspiration into action. You bring that thing you love to fruition.
2. Become Spacious You step out of your structured scheduled day-to-day and step into space and time, space-time. This feels amazing, especially when you typically have a very busy schedule.
3. Get Inspired You get to breathe life into your life. We’re all creative. Creativity and inspiration happen when you take the time away from your day to day to remember your day dreams. You play with what inspires you!
4. Remember Who You Are Society wants you to be the mother, sister, wife, friend, lover. Be reminded that you are an individual, a human being. Drop the roles of your life and just be. Be you.
